The project aimed to empower Mexico's public and private financial entities to adopt sustainable finance policies and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) regulations to enhance resource mobilisation in line with national climate and sustainable development goals).

The project supported the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, along with other relevant financial institutions, in the implementation of the Sustainable Finance Mobilisation Strategy.

It also facilitated the socialisation process of the Strategy with financial entities and representatives from the environmental sector, to ensure their perspectives and needs were integrated into the Strategy for successful implementation.
“Mexico, as a middle-income country, faces environmental and social challenges, as well as opportunities for transformative progress. The Sustainable Finance Mobilisation Stategy and the Sustainable Taxonomy emerge as a cornerstone of sustainable development, guiding both public and private sectors toward responsible investment and meaningful action."

María del Carmen Bonilla, former head of Public Debt and International Affairs Unit, Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público in México.

Moreover, the project supported a comprehensive capacity-building strategy focused on the Mexican Sustainable Taxonomy for financial entities and issuers. This included workshops and the development of essential tools to streamline the evaluation process of aligning projects and financial operations with the Taxonomy.

The project supported the first pilot program for the Taxonomy jointly with key financial entities, analysing over 90 financial operations. Additionally, supported a report detailing the minimum technical elements necessary for developing the biodiversity objectives of the Taxonomy.
