Deforestation-free livestock production roadmaps in the Mexico GCF Task Force States

Implementing partner: Pronatura Sur A.C.

Implementation period: Oct 2025 - May 2026

Sector: Nature

The project is supporting UK PACT’s AFOLU objectives of fostering sustainable, inclusive, and low-carbon agricultural and forestry systems. It aims to drive transformational change by strengthening subnational governments’ technical and institutional capacities to plan and implement deforestation-free livestock strategies aligned with Mexico’s NDC 3.0 and National Adaptation Plan.

Working across eight high-deforestation states, the project will deliver state-level roadmaps, a national synthesis report, and policy recommendations that link agricultural, livestock, and forest management agendas. Through participatory processes, it will engage producers, private sector actors, and authorities to validate viable mitigation and efficiency measures, reinforcing coordination between environmental and agricultural institutions.

By generating evidence, sharing knowledge, and building cross-sector partnerships, the project creates the enabling conditions for a transformational shift in how livestock production systems are conceived and managed at the subnational level.

“Deforestation‑free livestock production is a productive model that seeks to transform the way we manage our livestock systems. It is not about producing less, but about producing better.”

Roxana Rivera Peña, Head of the Secretariat for Agricultural Development of the State of Campeche (Mexico).
