Implementation period: October 2024 - December 2025 |
Sector: Nature |
The project focuses on enhancing the autonomy and capacity at both sub-national and national levels to accurately measure, report, and verify greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and removals resulting primarily from deforestation and forest degradation in the Brazilian Amazon states (Para, Tocantins, Mato Grosso, Acre, Maranhao, Roraima). This endeavor aims to ensure compliance with excellence standards, thereby facilitating access to climate finance resources.
It aims to increase the capacity of Amazon state governments to understand and meet Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) standards for jurisdictional REDD+ projects (e.g. Art trees). Additionally, it's intended to support these governments in monitoring the impacts of their REDD+ policies. The focus is on developing, adapting and validating methodologies, protocols and MRV tools to measure and monitor changes in forest carbon stocks due to deforestation and degradation that meet the necessary MRV standards. Meeting MRV standards is essential for Amazon states to access green finance, which will prioritise and implement action plans to reduce GHG emissions.
UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) is a unique capacity-building programme. Jointly governed and funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) through the UK's International Climate Finance, it works in partnership with countries with high emissions reduction potential to support them to implement and increase their ambitions for tackling climate change.
