This skill-share supported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), the Rural Sustainable Development Division (DDRS) of the National Planning Department (Departamento Nacional de Planeación, DNP) and FINAGRO (National Development Bank) in strengthening its financial tools to channel finance towards sustainable productive activities via Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) processes.
To achieve this, an expert from Crown Agents delivered a series of eight technical and financial workshops and three follow-up co-development sessions that helped to design the Green Finance Strategy to promote climate smart agriculture while equipping MADR, DNP and FINAGRO to make use of various green value chain policies, and fiscal and financial de-risking instruments to incentivize sustainable rural investments. This allowed them to scale up the climate smart agriculture value chain and provided national capacity and support internal and external stakeholders.
Gender, Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) was considered in this skill-share by supporting the development of gender responsive policy, fiscal, and financial de-risking instruments to scale up gender responsive climate smart agriculture value chains. From the outset, the importance of including women in the workshops and co-development sessions was discussed with the MADR, DNP and FINAGRO. More than 30% of workshop attendees were women who actively contributed to discussions.
UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) is a unique capacity-building programme. Jointly governed and funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) through the UK's International Climate Finance, it works in partnership with countries with high emissions reduction potential to support them to implement and increase their ambitions for tackling climate change.
