We are pleased to announce that today the UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme has launched a new funding opportunity for Nature-based Solutions projects in Kenya.
Kenya-UK PACT is inviting eligible organisations to submit proposals for innovative, capacity-building projects that help strengthen Kenya’s nature-based solutions sector. Grants of between £250,000 and £1,000,000 per year, per project, with an overall cap of £2,000,000 per project, are available. The deadline for applications is 18 March 2022, 23.59 (EAT) 20.59 (GMT).
Projects selected through this Kenya-UK PACT funding round will support the Government of Kenya’s ambitious goals for the nature-based solutions sector, set out in their Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). Kenya has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 32% by 2030.What will Kenya-UK PACT be funding?
We welcome proposals for projects that will start on 1 July 2022 and end no later than 31 March 2025. Projects should focus on addressing key policy and institutional gaps in the conservation, management and restoration of forests, and the continued development and implementation of a national REDD+ system. All projects must embed Gender Equality and Social Inclusion considerations throughout. We will be looking for evidence that projects can help accelerate carbon emissions reductions and contribute to economic recovery objectives in Kenya.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to applicants registered as not-for-profit organisations including academic institutions, NGOs, professional associations or similar organisations that have the knowledge, skills and experience to deliver technical assistance projects in the priority sector outlined. For-profit organisations can participate as consortium partners to the lead implementing partner submitting a proposal.
Welcoming the launch, Jane Marriott, British High Commissioner to Kenya, said:“Tackling climate change is central to the UK-Kenya Strategic Partnership launched in 2020 by Prime Minister Johnson and President Kenyatta. At COP26, Kenya and the UK demonstrated our shared commitment to action on climate and nature – two sides of the same coin. I’m excited by this new funding through the Kenya-UK PACT programme that will help Kenya deliver Nature-based Solutions to achieve its ambitious climate targets.” |
Projects will be selected through a one-stage open and competitive process. For full details on how to apply and to access application documents, go to our Kenya-UK PACT Nature-based Solutions web page.
