 Implementation period: August 2024 - January 2027

In Colombian regions where cocoa is a key agricultural activity, producers face increasing climate risks such as declining productivity, soil degradation, and heightened vulnerability in rural communities.

The project addresses climate change challenges in Colombia by reducing and sequestering greenhouse gas emissions in cocoa farms. It aims to improve the resilience of farming systems through sustainable practices like agroforestry, while empowering women and young farmers. These efforts are designed to strengthen the cocoa sector and promote sustainable development in Colombia’s rural areas.

It also seeks to mitigate climate change by integrating trees and plants into cocoa farming to enhance carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and agroforestry practices. The project gives cocoa producers and technical stakeholders the knowledge and tools needed to access carbon markets and secure sustainable financing.

Key activities include educational solutions delivered through Solidaridad’s Carbon Farming Academy (CFA), value chain analysis to identify opportunities for sustainable cocoa production, and the development of a financing mechanism to support agroforestry implementation at the farm level. The project also fosters cross-sector collaboration to maximize impact. These actions aim to sequester 30,000 tons of CO2 and benefit at least 8,000 producers in Colombia by transferring knowledge and fostering inclusive growth within communities.

"This project transforms cocoa farming in Colombia by integrating agroforestry and climate-smart agriculture. It not only tackles climate change but also empowers women and young farmers, ensuring a sustainable and inclusive future for the sector."
