UK PACT is partnering with Brazil, a country with a strong commitment to action on climate change and sustainable growth.
Brazil and the UK’s mutual recognition of the need to show leadership in combating climate change whilst promoting social development, jobs and economic growth, represents an opportunity to develop broader and deeper bilateral relations, through the UK PACT Country Programme offer.
The Brazil-UK PACT Country Programme, aims to build on existing climate programming by exploring new areas where Brazil and the UK can collaborate on reducing emissions and promoting low-carbon development, including support for the implementation of Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
UK PACT has already delivered 16 projects and 5 skill-shares in Brazil. The Brazil-UK PACT Country Programme will work closely with government stakeholders to identify further opportunities for support, including mobilising green investments, increasing the economic value of standing forests and making forest products and services a driver of sustainable livelihoods and green growth.

Green Recovery Challenge Fund Project
Project lead: Imperial College London
This project seeks to build capacity for Agroforestry Organic Cotton (AOC) production and develop scalable business models for sustainable AOC supply chains in Brazil, contributing to sustained reduction of GHG emissions, reducing deforestation, and inclusive recovery generating income opportunities for marginalised communities.
AGROcotton is delivered through a partnership of Imperial College London, FarFarm and the University of Brasilia, bringing together world-class expertise in agroforestry and cotton production in Brazil.
Green Recovery Challenge Fund Project
Project lead: Instituto Conexoes Sustentaveis
The project will blend knowledge, technical support, and adequate finance to build capacity in small producers, cooperatives leadership and financial agents to sustain the adoption of low emission agriculture and extractivism.
Green Recovery Challenge Fund Project
Project lead: AGROICONE LTDA
This project aims to promote the adoption of agroforestry systems in the Atlantic Forest and highlight its potential for Brazil's sustainable development. The local participation and governance will engage communities, private sector and environmental organizations – and then promote green recovery while generating economic and social benefits for the Brazilian population.
Green Recovery Challenge Fund
Project lead: WayCarbon
This project will raise awareness and create capacity to empower Brazilian Development Banks (DBs) to improve decision-making. It will achieve this by integrating climate-related risks and opportunities into credit operations, effectively supporting the promotion of a greener, low-carbon, and more resilient future aligned with the country's NDC. BNDES and BDMG are the DBs that will be piloting this project.

The project addresses the key underlying obstacles to adopting sustainable agriculture in Pará, Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais states in Brazil. The project has a strong focus on GHG emissions reduction and reducing deforestation with actions delivered towards global supply chains at local, regional and global levels.
"The Minas Gerais Climate Action Plan is a special achievement for the path of the State of Minas Gerais in neutralizing its net carbon emissions by 2050. The development of this project allowed the construction of this important instrument that will lead the State Government to fulfil its commitments through the involvement of all areas of government, the private sector and society, seeking a cohesive action by the state in the search for effective results with the global climate strategy to reduce global temperature and defend the rights of current and future generations of all forms of life.” - Marília Carvalho de Melo, Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of the State of Minas Gerais
