Colombian Initiative for Climate and Nature Disclosures Financial Transformation

Implementing partner: Transforma
Consortium partner: World Wildlife Fund
Implementation period: July 2025 - July 2026
Sector: Green Finance

The project aims to overcome key barriers within Colombia's financial system that limit the transition to a sustainable economy. While progress has been made in addressing climate-related risks, it's required to better integrate nature-related  risks and opportunities.

One gap is the limited flow of resources into a low-carbon economy. This is due to: slow adoption of international disclosure frameworks, high capital costs for green projects, insufficient knowledge and data within institutions, and new regulations.

This project will strengthen financial institutions by improving their ability to disclose and manage climate and nature-related risks, giving them the tools and skills needed to respond effectively. This will accelerate the shift in investment behaviour, channeling resources into environmentally positive activities and helping Colombia meet its national and international commitments.

The project will build on previous work done by Transforma and WWF to help the adoption of international and national standards. Its key outputs include a Climate Disclosure Report and an updated online course on the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), available as an open-access digital platform. It will also create a nature disclosure ranking and a self-assessment tool, to encourage financial institutions to improve their environmental reporting.

'Hands on Nature', a series of workshops will also help financial institutions adopt the TNFD framework, with simple tools and local data. A TNFD disclosure accelerator facility will be set up, extending a previous model to include asset managers and insurers. All these efforts are designed to make financial institutions stronger and more transparent, ultimately leading to guide more money toward a green, nature-friendly economy.
