Project country: Colombia

Sector: Low-carbon policy
Expert Partners: The Carbon Trust

The local government of Barranquilla requested assistance to develop and revise key indicators for its signature city projects, which have a significant impact on the environment.

This aimed to monitor projects’ contributions to emissions reductions and to take actions accordingly. Moreover, the city required assistance to identify a key climate action that derives from these projects, a key component of its commitment to the Cities: Race to Zero (R2Z) initiative.

The skill-share delivered advice on climate change indicators, such as reduction in CO2 emissions due to the city projects; measurement of environmental impact, development of climate actions and emissions reduction targets, delivered through a combination of workshops, co-working sessions and offline working. Skill-share experts further supported the local government of Barranquilla to identify a key climate action derived from its signature city projects, by delivering joint sessions with multidisciplinary teams from the local administration; identifying and developing a climate action for Cities: Race to Zero, with its corresponding targets, based on the selected projects.

Experts ensured that GESI was embedded across delivery of this skill-share. Key female stakeholders were empowered via increased expertise and technical authority, and a balanced gender ratio was achieved in attendance across delivery. Furthermore, GESI considerations in net zero planning and climate action were highlighted to the beneficiaries throughout the skill-share.
