Who is this event for?

We invite all organisations with relevant experience in delivering technical assistance and capacity-building projects in Climate Policy and Governance and Clean Energy sectors to register. This could be NGOs, academic institutions, community organisations, professional associations, international and local think-tanks, consultancies, or similar organisations that have the knowledge, skills and experience to deliver an eligible project.  
 
Proposals from private sector entities are accepted for UK PACT, however, please note that additional eligibility conditions apply and that projects must be delivered on a not-for-profit basis. Government agencies, departments, and state-owned entities are not eligible to receive direct UK PACT funding.  
 
Eligible organisations are encouraged to consider forming consortia with other eligible applicants in the development of their submissions. The market engagement event will also facilitate consortium-building.  

What will we be funding?

Through consultation with the Government of South Africa and other stakeholders, UK PACT has identified key opportunities in Climate Policy and Governance and Clean Energy. We are looking to award grant funding for projects aimed at providing technical assistance and capacity-building to support a just transition.  
 
As part of this call for proposals, a combination of targeted and broad areas of support have been identified:  
  • 2 Projects with a targeted terms of reference: To be eligible for funding, proposals must respond fully to the terms of reference for the specific project/s being applied for, delivering the specific activities and outputs at a minimum. Only one grant will be awarded per project. 
    • Project 1: Supporting the AIDC-EC and the Eastern Cape Provincial Government in the development of the Eastern Cape Climate Change Response Strategy  
    • Project 2: Supporting the Western Cape Government in the development of the Western Cape Integrated Resource Plan 
  • 2 Thematic areas with a broad terms of reference: Applicants may design innovative projects and propose activities and outputs which address the defined Government counterpart objectives and UK PACT Programme outcomes. More than one grant may be awarded per theme
    • Thematic area 1: Enabling implementation of the Climate Change Act at subnational level 
    • Thematic area 2: Advancing Just and Clean Energy Transitions through local action  

The projects and thematic areas will be presented in more detail during the webinar.   

What funding is available?

Projects will be selected through a one-stage open and competitive call. Successful projects will receive funding of up to £500,000 per year. Funding is available for up to 12 months and projects are expected to start in October 2025.
