The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) requested technical assistance to support the development of a dedicated hydrogen strategy and roadmap required to identify the key policy drivers and enablers to progress hydrogen policy in Indonesia. Development of this roadmap will support the finalisation of MEMR’s wider Net-Zero-Emission (NZE) roadmap, which sets out several technology options for meeting Indonesia’s projected increased demand for electricity whilst achieving net zero by 2060.
The skill-share supported MEMR by conducting analytical reporting on topics such as: Indonesia’s hydrogen potential and opportunities, hydrogen technology, nomenclature and global development, hydrogen regulatory framework and supply chains, Indonesia’s national positioning in global hydrogen market, and international lessons learned on developing hydrogen roadmaps. This was followed by an in-person workshop to stakeholders in Jakarta to reinforce learnings on these topics. Following successful delivery of these outputs, a formal extension was requested to support the drafting of Indonesia’s National Hydrogen Strategy. This additional work entailed a further in-person delivery element in the form of a focus group with industry stakeholders, aiming to elicit industry feedback and support a collaborative approach to the formation of the strategy. Development of National Hydrogen Strategy has been completed and will be formally launched in the coming weeks (Nov 2023) and published on MEMR’s website.
The experts incorporated GESI into the skill-share by designing training that was accessible, inclusive, and promoted diversity and equal opportunity. They designed inclusive materials, provided a diverse team from different ages and cultures, and facilitated open and collaborative discussions.
