Join our webinar to learn more about the Kenya-UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme and our upcoming Call for Proposals to support the Clean Energy Transition in Kenya. Please note that this event will be hosted in English.

Who is this event for?

We invite all organisations and institutions with relevant experience in delivering technical assistance and capacity-building projects in the Energy sector, primarily clean cooking, energy planning and integration, circular economy and off-grid solutions. This includes academic institutions, community organisations, NGOs, private entities, consultancy hubs, professional associations or any similar organisations that have the knowledge, skills and experience to deliver eligible energy projects.

Organisations are encouraged to consider forming consortia with other eligible applicants in the development of their submissions. Private sector organisations are welcome as part of a consortium led by a not-for-profit.

What will we be funding?

Through consultation with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, we have identified four priority areas for funding:

Thematic Area 1: National and county integrated energy planning

  • Technical assistance to support the National Integrated National Energy Plan which combines different aspects of national and county energy planning.
  • Technical assistance to support development and implementation of county energy plans and investment strategies.
  • Technical assistance to support capacity building in integrated energy data management systems, data modelling and analysis.
  • Expert deployment to national government, county government or other institutions, to support energy planning and policy harmonisation.

Thematic area 2: Clean cooking

  • Technical assistance to support the development of county clean cooking transition policy/ policies and an accompanying implementation/ investment plan.
  • Technical assistance to support data collection and impact monitoring on clean cooking.
  •  Technical assistance to support county-level capacity strengthening on clean cooking and clean cooking modelling.
  • Expert deployment to national government to enhance the development and implementation of evidence-based clean cooking policies through advanced modelling.

Thematic area 3: Circular economy

  • Technical assistance to support the development of a National Policy framework for Circular Economy
  • Technical assistance to support development of integrated Circular Economy Guidelines and Regulations for Counties.
Thematic area 4: Off-grid solutions
  • Technical assistance to support hands-on technical capacity building on renewable energy technology  and youth empowerment for renewable energy system installation and maintenance (solar, wind, hydrogen, etc.).
  • Technical assistance to support innovative financing models for renewable energy and renewable energy pilot projects for off-grid communities (solar, wind, hydrogen, etc.).

What funding is available?

Projects will be selected through a one-stage open and competitive call. It is anticipated that successful projects will run for 12-24 months, receiving funding  of up to £500,000 per year (with flexibility on annual budget limits assessed on a case-by-case basis).

Projects with a 36-month duration may be funded where there are clear justifications for impact and Value for Money.
