Join our webinar to find out how you can apply for funding for the climate strategy and clean energy Call for Proposals, within the South Africa-UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerating Climate Transitions) fund. The Call for Proposals will be launched during the week of September 9, 2024, and will be communicated through the South Africa-UK PACT webpage.
We invite all organisations with relevant experience in delivering technical assistance and capacity-building projects in the climate strategy and clean energy sectors to register. This could be think-tanks, consultancies, academic institutions, community organisations, NGOs, professional associations, or any similar organisations that have the knowledge, skills and experience to deliver an eligible project.
Proposals led by private sector entities are welcomed for UK PACT, as of 2024, however, please note that further eligibility conditions apply. Government agencies and Government departments are not eligible to receive UK PACT funding.
Through consultation with the Government of South Africa, UK PACT has identified key opportunities in climate strategy and policy, as well as clean energy and municipal capacity-building. We are looking to award grant funding for projects aimed at providing technical assistance and capacity-building to support Government counterparts to accelerate a just energy transition. The projects will assist the following counterparts: the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC), and the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.
To be eligible for funding, all proposals must fully respond to the terms of reference for at least one of the three specific projects that will be presented in more detail during the webinar. The three projects are:
1. Updating the National Employment Vulnerability Assessment (NEVA) and developing a dynamic online platform, supporting the DFFE
2. Developing scenarios for climate-informed economic pathways through stakeholder dialogues, supporting the PCC
—Translating and socialising outputs from detailed modelling of net zero CO2 emission pathways for South Africa, previously funded by UK PACT
3. Conducting a comprehensive feasibility study for an integrated waste to energy complex in eThekwini

UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) is a unique capacity-building programme. Jointly governed and funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) through the UK's International Climate Finance, it works in partnership with countries with high emissions reduction potential to support them to implement and increase their ambitions for tackling climate change.
