Applications for green finance and carbon markets sectors in Malaysia are now open

10 Jul 2025

We are pleased to announce the re-launch of the Malaysia-UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme and share more details about our upcoming funding opportunity in the green finance and carbon markets sector.

We welcome full proposals for funding in the green finance and carbon markets priority areas identified for Malaysia. The deadline for applications is 5 August  at 23:59 (MYT)/ 15:50 (UTC).

What are we looking for?

Malaysia-UK PACT is seeking proposals from eligible organisations to develop innovative projects that will focus on delivering these objectives:

  • Develop a sustainable finance roadmap;
  • Developing financing forest guidance to enhance Forest Conservation Certificates (FCC);
  • Improving bankability of projects by developing a regulatory framework on renewable integration solutions focusing on energy storage systems;
  • Innovative financing strategies for grid infrastructure expansion;
  • Providing support to industry and sectors on preparing for the Domestic Emissions Trading Scheme (DETS) participation.

Through consultation with the Government of Malaysia, UK PACT has identified key opportunities in climate finance, particularly in financing the energy transition and financing nature-based solutions, as well as carbon markets.

Welcoming today's launch, Ruzina Hasan, Political Counsellor at the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur said:

" The UK Government takes a really keen interest in this area. Our Foreign Secretary has committed for climate change and nature to be one of the key areas of the new Government's priorities, so it is central to our political agenda. The work UK PACT will be doing is committing to those mitigation objectives between the UK and Malaysia."

Successful projects will receive UK PACT grants up to £320,000 for the first financial year of implementation.
